Outlook stores all of your emails, contacts, calendar events, etc. in a single .pst file usually named Outlook.pst. To be safe, I would boot using your Ubuntu liveCD and do a search for any filename ending in .pst and back them up. After your clean install of Vista you should be able to replace the installed .pst file with your backed up copy (don’t do this while Outlook is running).
Your .pst file is probably fine, but on the off chance it is corrupt you could use a pst repair tool such as our Stellar Outlook PST Repair 3.0. The link below goes to a post on our blog that explains "What is a PST File?" that you might find informative.
Good luck with your recovery.
